Updated list of what is most needed!
Hi everyone! Just a quick note from the admin team. Yes, we hear you that the page is getting busy and there is some structure and coordination organisation coming. Just give us a day or two to iron out some kinks that always happen when something takes off fast. The right team is on it :) everyone is positive and engaging well. Stay tuned :) DK
UPDATE - The teams from MKC, @The Rescue Collective, Animal Rescue Freecycle and Support, and those of us here at the Animal Rescue Craft Guild have made this happen.

This picture is Nicole Blums from the Rescue Collective in front of one of many many loads she and the team have personally packed and gotten to people in need. We have people picking up caravans to give accommodation to people who have lost houses, knitters making animal nests, joey pouches, there are teams of vet nurses turning up and saying "what do you need" at vets and rescue centres.

Our crafters are working day and night to produce pouches, wraps, nests, blankets, mittens, bedding, etc. etc. etc. The supplies are getting out there and helping those who need it most RIGHT NOW.

If you're not a crafter, you can still support our work by making a tax deductible donation here: https://mkc.org.au/donations/arfsncrafts

Keep on keeping on, you good people! 💚💛
Don't forget! We are doing stocktake so please hang onto your items for now 🙂
Do you have craft items looking for a place to go? We're now taking in more items as the stockpiles start to clear in theWinter. If you have items, log a job here and we will get the best address to send them to! These are all going to Wildlife groups in the coming weeks!

Acrylic... Let's talk acrylic.
There's been a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding regarding the use of acrylic.
Acrylic is perfectly safe to use for nests, outer pouches and blankets.
*Outer pouches - need to be in a tight stitch (garter for knitted, US sc/UK dc for crochet) to keep our little ones warm but they also have enough gaps for air flow.
*Nests - they're open topped so don't need to breath and although they are usually lined, please ensure there is no loose threads no matter what material you are using.
*Blankets - the world is pretty much your oyster as long as there's no gaps or loose threads that can catch claws etc.

I hope this has helped solve one of our most asked questions.
When in doubt please ask an admin first to ensure you are getting the correct information you need.
Thanks again for all your hard work, we are grateful for you all xx Tim

Please only follow information shared by admins. This will prevent confusion and misinformation. We work very closely with our carers and know what they do, and do not, need.

WHAT IS MOST NEEDED:
See the attached traffic light image, it is updated every few weeks.

WHERE TO FIND PATTERNS

WHAT CAN I MAKE
Sewers: Joey pouches, hanging joey pouches, animal beds, bat wraps, quilts and blankets. No hand sewn items.
Crocheters: Birds nests, blankets, joey pouch outers, animal jumpers.
Knitters: Blankets, joey pouch outers, animal jumpers.

HOW CAN I DONATE:
Donations are VERY welcome to cover supplies and postage costs. Make a tax deductible donation here: https://mkc.org.au/donations/arfsncrafts/

JOEY POUCHES
Every outer pouch needs 2-3 liners. If you can make even more liners, please do.
Hanging pouches are very needed too.
All sizes are needed from tiny pouches for sugar gliders all the way to large sizes that fit older kangaroo joeys. Inner pouches: 100% natural fibre only (cotton, bamboo, linen, silk). Flannelette or plain cotton are great, some carers love stretchy t-shirt cotton. Upcycled bed sheets and doona covers are perfect for these. Fabric should be very soft (what you would give to a baby). French seams are a MUST for all joey pouch liners.
Outer pouches: Cotton, flannelette, polar fleece, wool, jersey, sweatshirt material, etc. Poly blends and synthetics are OK. Carers have their own preferences based on their experience and environment. French seams are not needed for outer pouches.

BAT WRAPS
- 100% cotton flannelette is preferred.
- Stuff them so they feel like a firm teddy bear.
- Only polyfil for the pillow

CROCHET NESTS
A variety of sizes are needed (from 3-12 inches in diameter ).
Recommended to use one thread of a cotton 8-10ply and one thread of 8ply acrylic with a 5 to 5.5mm hook. But two of wool/two of acrylic is fine.
No yarns that are ‘fluffy’ like mohair
